There is a lot to consider, so we’ve put together questions we hear all the time from patients like you.
What are dental implants?
A dental implant is a solution for replacing a missing tooth. A fairly recent innovation, dental implants are often the ideal choice when you have lost one or more teeth due to decay or injury.
There are some similarities to bridges, but while bridges are cemented in place, an implant is attached via a post (similar to your tooth’s root) that is surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath the gum line. A dental implant will look and feel just like a regular tooth, which can increase both your confidence and your overall dental hygiene.
What are the advantages of dental implants?
We only have two sets of teeth in our lifetime, baby teeth and adult teeth. But what if those adult teeth are damaged or decayed? Implants are a great way to rebuild a smile that you can confidently share with others. Plus, they’re made of high-quality materials that don’t decay and instead, last a lifetime.
Am I a good candidate for dental implants?
Anyone missing one or multiple teeth should consider implants. However, because the implant penetrates the jaw bone and gum, not everyone will be a good fit for an implant. We will discuss all the considerations with you and help you choose the treatment that is best for you!
Am I too old for implants?
No, you’re never too old for a dental implant! Our senior patients replace partial and full dentures with implant-supported restorations, so they can eat or take part in any activity without having to worry about their teeth.
How long do dental implants take?
The length of time depends on the situation. On some occasions, a dental implant can be placed immediately, while other procedures will take 3-6 months to complete the full treatment. We can evaluate your situation and give you a timeframe during our treatment planning.
Do dental implants last?
Unlike your natural teeth, implants don’t decay over time. However, it’s important to care for an implant just as you would care for your actual teeth, which includes twice-a-year trips to the dentist.
How much do implants cost and does insurance cover the cost?
The total cost depends on multiple factors, including location, number of teeth, and what type of implants are needed, which we’ll review with you so you know exactly what to expect for your dental implant procedure. As for insurance, we ask that you check with your provider.
